Alu is a demon that appears in FAITH: Chapter III.

He appears as the main boss of the New Haven Apartment Complex.

Appearance[]

Alu has a goat head with large horns and bright red eyes. Large, blood-red protrusions resembling the bones of bat wings emerge from a ghostly, bloodied body.

Behavior[]

When John finds Lisa, she is possessed by Alu, and will begin stumbling her way over to John to kill him. John must exorcise Lisa long enough to drive Alu out of her body.

Upon exorcising Lisa, Alu exits her body and splits up into five copies of himself, each one moving into one of five stick dolls around the room. John must find the one containing the real Alu and exorcise it, which will cause the demon to exit the doll and jitter around randomly, allowing John to deal damage to him with his cross before repossessing Lisa after a few seconds. Beware, Alu will still be able to kill John during this time if he gets too close.

The trick to finding out which of the five copies of Alu is the real one is to pay attention to them before they enter the stick dolls; the real Alu will have the brightest glowing eyes, and will move the fastest out of all of them.

Failing to exorcise the correct stick doll in time will cause the real Alu to immediately head for John and possess him. In this possessed state, John will begin stumbling his way over to Lisa in an attempt to kill her; the player must hold down the movement keys to try and keep the two apart long enough for Alu to exit John and repossess Lisa.

The fight will cycle between the above states until defeat.

Failing to keep the possessed John away from Lisa will cause him to kill her, ending the fight. This does not result in a Game Over for John; he will be allowed to leave the apartments and continue the game if this happens. In order to revive Lisa, DO NOT LEAVE THE ARENA, quit the game, and enter back in to retry the fight.

Biography[]

Before October 29th, 1987[]

As Gary Miller manages an apartment complex in search of vessels for Second Death rituals, one of his most devout followers, Tiffany Robinson, learns of his plans to use Amy Martin as his next vessel. In her state of envy, Tiffany apparently tries to sabotage these plans, prompting Gary to announce to the rest of his cult that she has gone against the will of the UNSPEAKABLE. He tells them to proceed with the original plan: Lisa Pearson will be the new vessel.

After this point, Alu appears in the apartment complex and places his seal over Lisa's door. Gary theorizes that Tiffany did this to prevent them from getting to her, but also writes to his followers that it may be a test of their faith in the Antichrist.

John receives letters in the mail from his childhood friend, Lisa. She asks him to come over and help her escape from the clutches of the cult, who will not let her leave the apartment. Having coincidentally been assigned by Father Garcia to investigate the apartment complex to stop the cult from summoning Malphas, John heads over.

Entering Lisa's apartment, John sees a seal in front of one of the doors, blocking his way to Lisa. A note found in Lisa's bathroom reveals that to remove the Seal of Alu, he must exorcise the blood-stained knife and mask found elsewhere in the building, but that only those who have ascended to the highest point can descend to the lowest depths.

The knife is located in room 2A. When it is stained with blood, it can be exorcised to remove half of Alu's seal.

The mask is located in the basement, where it is currently too dark to see anything. John must first enter the maintenance room on the top floor and sacrifice his cross into the dumbwaiter, which will send it to the basement. After this, John is forced into the elevator and onto the 4th floor, where he finds a camera. After picking it up, the power to the building goes out, leaving John in total darkness having to rely on the camera's flash to make his way to the basement. Finding his cross there, the lights come back on and John is able to find and exorcise the mask.

With Lisa's door now unblocked, John makes his way back up the basement stairs. Suddenly, Alu appears and rushes towards him, possessing him. John immediately begins writhing in pain; his eyes turn red and he starts coughing up blood. During this process, John has a vision where he is stood face-to-face with Malphas, who lacerates his face. The game quickly cuts back to a possessed John, stumbling around uncontrollably for several seconds before instantly returning to normal.

John heads back to Lisa's apartment and enters the door. Lisa stands in the middle of the room with five stick dolls surrounding her. John tries to get her out of here, but Lisa responds with "I'M NOT LISA", and starts trying to kill John; she has been possessed by Alu. A battle ensues between John and the demon. Eventually, John drives Alu out of Lisa and away from the building. Lisa immediately runs out of the room to her kitchen.

Exiting Lisa's apartment, John senses that another seal has broken somewhere beyond. Alu's defeat has removed a second seal in the Unseen World, allowing John access to the fight with Tiffany.

October 31st, 1987[]

During John's fight with Gary in Garyland, he has a chance of summoning apparitions of past foes, including Alu.

Trivia[]

  • Alu is possibly based off of Alû: a Demon in Mesopotamian mythology that scares and torments people at night while they sleep[1].
  • Upon Alu's defeat, he notably does not dematerialize and die, but rather exits the room in a random direction. It is possible that he is still active.
  • Alu is likely not associated with the Eternal Order of the Second Death, as Gary had not expected his arrival.
  • John's vision of Malphas during Alu's possession of him implies that Gary has already successfully summoned him to Earth at this time.
  • In the 2017 Chapter III Demo, if the possessed John kills Lisa, it leads to "Ending II: GARY LOVES YOU". John's apology to Lisa is heard over the Game Over screen.
  • When Alu possesses John, the line "YOU ARE MINE, PRIEST" can be heard, originally spoken by Amy in Chapter II after finishing the derailing newspaper article.
