Blind Ones are tall cult members that appear in Chapter II and III.
Biography[]
Their red robes are just like a cultist's, except they're abnormally tall. They twitch their heads erratically. Because of how they lurk in the darkness, they cannot withstand light.
September 28th, 1987[]
Following a Thrall in the Candy Tunnels, John winds up in Malphas' House. There's a locked door in front of him so he has to go to the right. "They hate the light" is written on the floor leading up to the next room. Inside, John has to exorcise a portrait of a nun to reveal a key. However, three Blind Ones lurk in the shadows. They slowly make a beeline towards him and cannot be banished; they can only be repelled by the flashlight. Using the crucifix makes them move away faster. After retrieving the key and opening the door, they don't appear again.
October 30th, 1987[]
Inside Garyland, John has to find three artifacts to put inside a Moloch effigy to gain access to the Nowhere Forest. Passing by a cultist, there's a lone Blind One staring at a wall. Before getting close to them, there's a note close by that says, "LETS PLAY RED LIGHT GREEN LIGHT". John plays the game to grab the artifact close to them. The Blind One gets aggressive and dashes toward John if he moves when they face him (including the instant they say "RED LIGHT"). He only stops getting aggressive when John starts to walk up a staircase back to the room with the cultists. Interestingly, a silhouette of the Pentagram Demon slowly approaches John when he picks up the artifact. He will also disappear when John walks up the staircase.
October 31st, 1987[]
After some questioning, Gary and John battle. During the fight, Gary has a chance to summon apparitions of Demons and entities John has faced in the past, including the Blind One. Like all the other apparitions, they cannot kill John; so they can only knock him down. If John doesn't retrieve his crucifix in time, Gary captures him and performs the Second Death ritual on him, killing him. Otherwise, they don't reappear.
Trivia[]
- The filenames for these enemies are called "Blind Ones", though they are never referred by this name in-game.
Theories[]
- Their inclusion in Garyland might be some sort of personal illusion by John.
- The enemies in here seem to be related personally to John's mental issues. The Mirror Demon making his third appearance, viewing portraits of Miriam long enough for the Unholy Spirit to appear, the Unholy Spirit sending John to a flashback at the Yale Psychiatric Institute, the Pentagram Demon appearing as a ghostly silhouette, and now the Blind One. Gary seems to know a lot more about John than John does about himself, and it seems like he can try to attack him mentally to wear him down.
