FAITH: Demon Siege is a fan game of the FAITH series where John survives against waves of demons with only his crucifix and some holy water.

This game was created by CrackedGhostGames and was published to GameJolt on January 20th, 2020[1], as a homage to Chapter I and II. A trailer for the game was released a couple of weeks later, on February 3rd, 2020[2].

On October 21st, 2022, Faith: The Unholy Trinity was released on Steam. Within the files, this fangame came be found bundled with other behind-the-scenes designs of characters, development history, memes, and secrets within the Goodies Folder.

Plot[]

Starting the game, John stands in the middle of a forest and starts duking out with demons from there. However, the GameJolt description of the game yields details about the plot:

Welcome to Brimdale Forest. In the year 1951, multiple reports of demonic activity prompted the church to get involved in the matter. Priests were dispatched to the location but were never heard from again. After many more years of people disappearing, getting attacked by seemingly nothing, and strange noises in the area, this location has earned the title of "Satan's Grove". Years later, John Ward is informed about the location. Are you worthy of cleansing Satan's Grove once and for all?

— GameJolt Description of Demon Siege

There's a building nearby where a Shopkeeper sells items that can either aid, harm, or be useless when John faces an upcoming onslaught of demons. With some preparation time, the shop closes, and John fends for himself.

On Wave 5, Miriam spawns with a plethora of demons, and on Wave 10 Michael dashes into John. However, the priest prevails, and gets stronger from purchasing all the upgrades he can get from the Shopkeeper.

Suddenly, on Wave 15, a Red Demon stands on top of the Shopkeeper's shop. It then explodes into the UNSPEAKABLE, revealing it was just an alter ego. Debris from the shop is everywhere and the Shopkeeper was killed in the explosion. John successfully banishes the UNSPEAKABLE, which then explodes in a bloody mess. Dropping his crucifix, John stares optimistically at the setting Moon among the debris and burnt tree stumps from the demons. The game ends.

Interpretation[]

Since Demon Siege is a fan game, it's not canon to the story. But, since the game is found in the Goodies Folder, it wouldn't hurt to say it's loosely connected. And even if it was, it doesn't provide a lot of new details that gives background behind the overarching plot, besides the fact that the Red Demon is definitely the UNSPEAKABLE's alter ego.

So, let's say Demon Siege really did happen. If so, then this entire game was just a nightmare similar to the events in Chapter II and Prologue; it's another instance where John's subconscious tries to comprehend some key events of the cult by being directly in it. We know it's a dream since the UNSPEAKABLE makes its appearance here. This entity is not summoned on Earth because, if it was, then Chapter III would've been very different considering all Hell is literally broke loose. Also, the UNSPEAKABLE can only interact with people through dreams or hallucinations via injection.

Since we see the UNSPEAKABLE in Chapter II and not Prologue, my best guess is that this game take place after Chapter II, between September 29th to October 28th of 87'.

Trivia[]

  • This game marks the only time we can directly cause damage to the UNSPEAKABLE, every other time it's either just a cameo or was disguised as Miriam at one point.
  • This game also marks the only time the UNSPEAKABLE can speak; it only makes animalistic noises in Chapter II and III.
    • In this game, its voicebox is high-pitched like Michael, which is odd since Michael is given a darker voice only in this game.
  • There's a rare death screen where John's body was so badly damaged that his bare skull is showing. It's unknown whether or not it's used in game because there's no footage of somebody getting this or from my (the editor) own experience. Check out the Unused Content page for more info.
    • My theory is that this screen is used when John is killed by the UNSPEAKABLE. However, it takes almost 40-ish minutes to make it to Wave 15 and I'm struggling to reach that wave again on my second playthrough. So, to anybody reading this, try dying to the UNSPEAKABLE and feel free to edit your findings here. It'd be greatly appreciated!
  • Brimstone, Bloody Eye, Infected Eye have a red ring, even though the effects of the weapons don't relate to demons/enemies in any way.
