Father Garcia is a Spanish Catholic priest first mentioned in FAITH and appearing as a supporting character in FAITH: Chapter II where he serves as the protagonist of the game's prologue.

Biography

Father Garcia is a Catholic priest with strong faith. At some point, he took charge of caring for a young boy named Michael Davies who had been afflicted with a violent demonic possession. Despite demands from the Vatican, more specifically from one Cardinal Gifford, to return Michael to his family, Father Garcia refused and believed that Michael was far too dangerous to be returned until he could be successfully exorcised. Despite three months of work, Father Garcia was unsuccessful in exorcising the demon from Michael. This resulted in the demon ravaging Michael's body to the point of being beyond recognition from the boy he once was. Briefly after those three months, during one of Father Garcia's exorcism attempts, Michael broke free from his restraints in the basement of Father Garcia's home, escaped to the second floor, attacked, and killed an unknown individual, and escaped into the wilderness. Father Garcia vowed that the righteousness of God would catch up to Michael before giving chase. At some point, he responded to Cardinal Gifford's request for the release of Michael by detailing in a letter the severity of Michael's affliction and disclosed a picture of Michael in his current state as proof.

Don't be afraid, John

Father Garcia makes a later appearance in the sewers of the "Candy Tunnels" in Connecticut to assist John Ward in engaging the demon posing as Sister Miriam Bell. Although Father Garcia can be killed during this segment, this is revealed to be a mere nightmare by John Ward and it is unknown if they battled any demons in real life together. At the end of FAITH: Chapter II, Father Garcia reaches out to John Ward in the form of a letter and depending on the ending will have specific instructions for him in his quest against the demonic evils haunting him.

Trivia

  • When Michael escapes from the basement at the beginning of FAITH: Chapter II, the closet in Father Garcia's bedroom will be open. If one enters it and turns left, they will pick up an item called "nasus" which is the Latin word for nose. It is a circular red item, bearing resemblance to a red clown nose. At this time, it does not appear to have any use in the game and its significance remains unknown.
    • Strangely enough, when John Ward encounters a grey entity several frames down the road, from where he has parked his car, the entity will run and leave behind a red circle which looks near identical to the "nasus" obtained in FAITH: Chapter II. It, too, bears a striking resemblance to a clown nose. This may be in reference to the clown depicted on the Martin Twins' birthday invitation the player can recover during the course of the game. Any relation between these occurrences in FAITH and FAITH: Chapter II remaisn unknown.
  • Father Garcia shares many similarities with a grey entity which can be encountered several times in FAITH. A rare encounter of the grey entity outside the Martin Family Home living room window will cause it to run in a similar animation to that of Father Garcia's sprite in FAITH: Chapter II. Likewise, this particular grey entity can be encountered several frames down the road where John Ward has parked in FAITH (as mentioned above). Again, this sprite shares a similar appearance to that of Father Garcia. It is unknown if there is a connection or a simple sprite recycle.
  • Father Garcia is presumably of Spanish descent, mixing Spanish with much of his English throughout FAITH: Chapter II.
  • Father Garcia is briefly mentioned in FAITH, should the player receive the "Father and Son" ending. The player receives a letter from Garcia urging Cardinal Gifford to allow him to continue treatment of Michael.
  • In FAITH, there is a rare chance that Michael will drop a note when he is fended off, written by Father Garcia explaining to Cardinal Gifford, that Michael has not recovered and is not ready to return to his parents.
