FAITH: Chapter II is the sequel to FAITH: Chapter I, and the second game in the series. The game was released in full on February 22nd, 2019, after a demo was released on July 2nd, 2018. The last update for this game was version 1.2.

Currently it's (legally) impossible to get the standalone version of Chapter II because the itch.io, Steam, and GameJolt page for this game was removed in favor of The Unholy Trinity's release. Although The Unholy Trinity version is the better version, there are minor differences in the standalone version that will be mentioned near the end of this page.

Plot[]

The game begins with a flashback, where we get to play as Father Garcia in an unnamed apartment building before Chapter I started. Michael Davies, who has been possessed by a demon, has been in custody of Garcia for about three months. He refuses to let him go home to his parents until he manages to exorcise the demon, despite getting implication from Cardinal Gifford that he will be renounced as a priest by keeping Michael in captivity. During previous exorcism sessions, Garcia had been taking photographs of Michael with his camera as evidence to show Gifford the heavy toll the demon has had on Michael's body.

Readying himself in his bedroom, Garcia walks down to his basement to start another exorcism session. He tries to ask how Michael is doing but the demon resists; telling him that his parents will kill him if they ever see what he's done to him. Garcia starts the exorcism, but Michael breaks free of his chains and the lights cut off. Turning the light back on, Garcia finds that Michael is missing and has left satanic symbols all over the apartment with his own blood. The most recent photography of the boy is missing as well. Garcia exits his apartment room and comes across Michael eating a bystander, another tenant of the building. Before doing so, returning to Garcia's bedroom and entering the closet can yield a secret item, the nasus.

TutMikey

After Garcia asks Michael what he has done, the boy crashes into a window and escapes, screaming "I HAVE THE BODY OF A PIG!". Garcia says that he cannot hide from God and "You will drink the wrath of The Almighty". Garcia dashes off to catch up to Michael and finish the exorcism, ending the flashback.

2:00 A.M[]

The screen fades into John standing in the middle of five pebbles. Walking past a dismembered deer on a tree, he opens a gate to Gallup Cemetery. Passing through some gravestones, he comes across the Save Family Tomb. Since the other gates are locked, he has no choice but to go inside.

Enter the spirit house[]

Inside the tomb is three thralls sitting on a bench, immobile. One of them is a woman with long hair, the other is a bald man, and the last one is a man with messy hair and beard. All have pure white eyes and satanic symbols on their bodies; they appear to be avoiding making eye contact with John, probably due to his priestly clothing. Looking at a mirror at the end of the tomb, John opens his eyes and eerily smiles to himself while holding a key.

JohnMirror

Ghosts exit the thralls' bodies and four skulls on the back wall light up. Exiting the tomb, John has a new goal: find and banish three demons throughout the cemetery.

Walking to the right and exorcising a purple skull, a gate opens. John can exorcise a gravestone that drops an obituary note, detailing the deaths of Bob and Cindy Martin who are survived by Amy, Nate, and Jason Martin. Going inside the unlocked gate, a demon makes its presence known by stretching a fleshy appendage and saying, "I'M AN ANGEL".

ImAnAngel

The Umbilical Cord Demon is the trickier enemy compared to the other two. After making a beeline towards John, it teleports into a different location and goes up and down in a wave-like pattern. Use the crucifix sparingly and the demon will be banished, screaming "VIOLATOR!" before leaving some blood and a note. The note details a woman (likely Sandra) who had an unexpected pregnancy and felt judged by everyone, including her doctor. However, the visits from her doctor's made it bearable since there's a strange woman at the side of the road who would give her a warm smile. One day, after losing the baby (either aborting or miscarrying it), she sees the strange woman again, but her smile is eviler. An unknown number of days past and the woman comes across the stranger again, this time the stranger is pregnant. She beckons her into the woods, and she meets Gary. If John decides to return back to the tomb, Sandra is now missing.

Walking to the left and going down, clouds of mist surround the area. Going to the middle of the area makes a demon appear from nowhere, making unintelligible, child-like screaming. This demon goes to the cloud that's closest to it and stays there, making it near impossible to see. When the mist is about to go off-screen, it'll jump to a different cloud and the process repeats. Defeating it is simple but be careful when it's about to move to a different mist. Once defeated, it'll leave a blood stain and drop a note. In the note details a child who misses their grandfather after his death. Seeing the child in distraught, their stepmom asks if they wanted to see their grandpa again. The child was willing to do anything, so they agree. The stepmom takes them to her friend's house and makes them go down into a basement. The child was eager at first seeing their grandfather again but notices whatever is down there isn't really their grandpa. The child tries to escape but the door is locked. Although not remembering what else happened after that, the stepmom's friends keep pressuring them that they have a debt to pay. If John decides to return to the tomb, the old bald man is missing.

Before entering the area with the Mist Demon, John spotted some statues. These statues indicate what directions he has to take, so he walks upward. Walking right, up, left, up, a demon spawns on top of what looks like a casket. This demon's attack is similar to another demon John battled in the Martin House; it teleports from a random point in the area and rushes towards him. With enough times, the demon says, "I WILL SEE THEE SOON" and disappears, leaving a blood stain and a note. The note details a troubled man talking about "freedom". He doesn't have to deal with a violent alcoholic father, hiding (presumably) self-inflicted cuts and bruises, using drugs and needles, and getting ridiculed because "by night my mind explores forbidden worlds of power and knowledge, guided by beings of pure darkness.". He goes on to say that they've been trusted with secret knowledge of making a demon seal and a conjuring sign. He ends his note saying, "I will lure them into the woods. Then I will show them my power.". If John decided to defeat this demon before the other two, the man with messy hair and a beard disappears.

With all three demons defeated, John spots a distorted statue before heading inside the tomb. Once inside, one more skull has glowing eyes and it looks like his own reflection in the mirror is staring at him before even getting close to the mirror. Inspecting the mirror, John makes a wide grin before stabbing himself in the eye and falling on the ground.

Cine mirrorJohn

The final glowing skull is gone and the same key in the mirror is on the ground. With a bleeding eye, John picks up the key and exits the tomb.

Going up, a lone locked gate stands in the middle of the darkness. After using the key, the rest of the area lights up and John's eye stops bleeding. Walking up, a tree suddenly grows arms and limbs and runs away. Walking some more, John stands in front of a dilapidated church. A purple child is seen offscreen walking into a cornfield in the background. A note is found the front of the church:

SHE GUARDS THE DOOR TO UNDERGROUND PURGATORY

EYE HATH NOT SEEN HER

CHILDREN FEAR HER

— A note found in front of Snake Meadow Hill Church

John goes inside the church.

Confess Thy Sins[]

The church looks like it's been unactive for years, the walls and flooring are breaking down and cobwebs are everywhere. On the ground there's eight candles, with two of them always being lit.

Going to the left there's a confession booth. Inside, John confesses what he thinks are sins to an unknown person. He recounts his failed exorcism with Amy, saying that he broke his vows to God and the ministry for not being able to exorcise her demon. He then says that, a year later, Amy reached out to him again. However, he couldn't finish the exorcise again and left her to die in the forest. He asks to be forgiven for the current and past sins. The person in the confession booth gives him a penance: "BRING THE CHILD TO ME", saying that if he does this then God will forgive him.

After this, John will be behind the confession booth and in a room with two sealed doors and a note. The note details Paranormal Investigators who were trying to summon the Spindly Lady so that they can capture it on camera to release the footage to TV stations for a profit. Exiting the room and exploring the church for a bit, John comes across a room full of crucifixes on the wall. They will fall on the floor and reveals red marking, saying "Watch The Candles".

To move on, you have to carefully watch the lit candles positions. One of them represents what room you're in, and the other represents what room the Spindly Lady is in. You have to be in the same room as the Spindly Lady for her to appear. When she does, she'll teleport in three random locations then ram towards you. She's simple to defeat, but do not move between rooms in quick recession. The third time you do this she will freeze you and kill you automatically. She'll do this whether or not you're in the same room as her.

When she is banished, a passageway leading to the basement in the chapel becomes unlocked. John goes inside.

Darkness Surrounds Thee[]

Walking down the stairs, John reads a memoir from somebody named Father Clarke. In it, the main details that he knows his time is running up. He senses an unknown woman waiting for him in the next room. He notes that time does not flow correctly in the basement since his wristwatch doesn't move past 2 a.m. He says that God's work is done since he's in where only the faintest light shine and protect him from things unspeakable. He begs for God's help and calls himself foolish as his ears begin to bleed from the screams of a demon. Walking downward, John spots a silhouette of Amy floating away and markings on the floor. The markings are actually satanic symbols that go in a clockwise direction. Going to the next room, the area is pitch black and there's demonic hands blocking the exit. On the floor is satanic symbols.

To solve this puzzle, you have to move in order from the markings you saw in the previous room. They go in a clockwise manner, so you have to follow them as such. If you step on the wrong symbol, eerie music begins to play, and you have to step back to your restarting position to not get killed from something. When you do this, you'll see a large red entity with multiple hands and a single eye shrouding back into the darkness.

When solving the puzzle, the demonic hands disappear, and John goes into the next room. In that room, "MOTHER OF DEMONS" is drawn on the floor with six stick dolls on the floor. Walking up the staircase, John is outside of a shed. The shed is locked, so he can't go back to the church or graveyard again. Following where running deer are coming from, he finds three decapitated bodies of thralls on the ground with red markings connecting to them. Inside the ritualistic pentagram is a newspaper article.

The newspaper article says that three young people were discovered dead in what seems like a pagan ritualistic murder outside the woods of Sterling, Connecticut. The recent discovery is a part of the latest wave of ritualistic killings. The victims, Sandra Attwood, Troy Ingles, and Angel Nogales were beheaded and stabbed multiple times. "Pandemonium regnat". Two of them were partially burned but the authorities would not specify who. They were found a couple of miles off of Gallup Cemetery, where locals reported seeing a desecrated tomb. They also found a blood trail leading into the woods, but investigators aren't saying if the two events are connected. The article matches the arrangement of the bodies to the style of several murders that happened in the Sterling area since 1986. It also says that the killings may be connected to last week's murder of Amy, a 17-year-old girl who was killed by an impersonated priest named John Ward.

The article quickly spirals from here. The article asks the locals to report any suspicious activity to the authorities, and the authorities are saying to not mourn the loss of the victims because, "they were degenerate devil-worshipping thugs who were hooked on crack cocaine and hated their parents.". An unknown demonic voice now directly communicates to John through the article, saying that that's what he thinks the victims were; Three outcasts who got what they deserved. The entity says that John did the community a favor by finding them getting high in a tomb and killed them one-by-one by stalking them through the gravestones. It says that he ignored their cries for help as he put holes in their drug-addicted bodies and cut off their heads because everybody knows that's the only way you kill a snake. The entity starts to get more aggressive, saying that he didn't kill the snake, he can't kill what can't be killed. It says that he failed to kill Amy but can't destroy their works because it's work for the eternal dragon. It refers to Amy being "at thy door" and "at thy throat" but he cannot see her. The entity says they'll have her soul because "FOR I AM THE G O D O F T H I S W O R L D".

The article becomes a complete mess; "PANDEMONIUM REGNAT SATANI VITAE" (translating from Latin to mean "Chaos reigns in Satan's home") repeats itself and an inverted cross fill the screen. The note ends with purple text saying, "I'M HERE, JOHN".

Closing out of the screen, Amy's demon says, "YOU ARE MINE, PRIEST". The screen pops up to the dead bodies standing upright with fire on their beheaded shoulders. Cultists are seen in the background and Amy is staring directly at John. Rotoscope animation plays of John's body slowly melting with his eyes bleeding.

Cine MikeInAgony

The screen cuts into a dark area with stick dolls dotting the landscape. John has turned into a similar creature and can only crawl throughout the void. Crawling around, he comes across an underpass with two people trying to fix their truck on top of the bridge. Crawling underneath, he suddenly turns back to normal. Walking ahead, there's an entrance to a sewer tunnel. Red markings say "candy tunnel" on top of the entrance and three gray figures are seen standing in the background. John goes inside.

Death Awaits[]

Inside the sewer system, the area has beer bottles, syringes, skeletons, and other drug paraphernalia throughout the place. Graffiti is also on the walls too, looking like the place is typically occupied by the homeless, drug addicts, or even gang members. Exorcising the skeletons drop a newspaper article, detailing two bodies being discovered near the entrance to the tunnels and a deadly shootout between the Sterling Police Department and (apparently) a serial killer named Joe Baumann (a.k.a. the Candy Store Killer). Exploring some more, he sees a thrall running around in the pipes and walks into a room with four pillars with graffiti on it. Piecing the words together, the graffiti says, "When You See It, DON'T MOVE". Walking to the next room, there's blood surrounding a specific pillar. Attempting to leave, a demon suddenly appears from behind.

Spr CH2 cine peekaboo01 0

When it gets closer, a bloody eye is seen protruding from its hands to look at John. It then slowly walks away. If, for some reason, John decides to move or use his crucifix when the demon leaves, it opens its hands and yells "YOU WHORE!" before killing him.

Once it's left, John goes upward and sees blood trail leading to a wall. Going inside the pipes and heading to the right, there's a large hole on the ground with two white masks and blood nearby. Picking up a note, it details an unnamed police officer who personally wrote a note on what he saw. He says that whatever the department are dealing with isn't human since he saw a beast dragging down the remains of another officer named Jenkins into its lair. That's where he "understood", saying that all the child-runaway prostitutes and people with GRID (An outdated and discriminatory term for AIDS) can return to the tunnels for all he cares so that they can satiate the beast's thirst to kill.

Screenshot 20221203 063313

Walking to the left, John finds a note from somebody who hides their stash behind the pipes. They say that their hiding place is perfect because nobody thinks to go past through the first pipe besides, "those strange people with their bodies painted red and their eyes like animals.". They say that twice a month they pass through into the deeper tunnel system. Sometimes, they hear an old woman laughing, chanting, yelling, or something human. They end their note saying that whatever they hear is emitting from something really big.

Navigating his way, John goes into the deeper tunnel system and spots blood trail from graffiti. Following the trail, he finds himself in a dark room. Spotting a flashlight and picking it up, he sees a demon floating in the middle of the room. It says, "God bless the Earth." before announcing "Here I come!"

The Basement Demon has the largest amount of health compared to the other demons John has previously encountered. It has two distinct attack patterns; one where it says, "Here I come!" and slowly floats towards John in the darkness. Flash your crucifix in all directions until you hear the sound effect of a demon getting damaged. Keep your distance and move accordingly. It might teleport to another location to catch you off guard. The other attack pattern is when it says another phrase, such as "You can't catch me!" or "Too late, priest!". It will stay stationary in one spot for a while before saying, "Here I come!", restarting the process. Although you can banish the demon faster if you actively hunt for it when it stays still, it will teleport soon and you might accidentally bump into it, killing you. You'll know when the demon is very close to you when the colors on the screen begin to distort and bleed. During the fight, you may see two purple children holding hands, a singular child running through the darkness, a satanic symbol, or a Wretch. They all do not attack you and are just there as red herrings.

Banishing the demon, it says "THEY ARE MINE FOREVER!" before disappearing. Walking upward, a thrall is seen running away from behind a pillar into another sewer pipe. Following their trail, John uses his flashlight again since it's pitch-black. Coming across the thrall again, they say "HE'S HERE" before sprinting away. John follows their trail.

DOMUS MALPHAS (MALPHAS HOUSE)[]

The screen fades into John standing in the lower half of a pitch-dark, purple room. It seems like he teleported there because there isn't an entrance leading back into the Candy Tunnels. The room looks well organized compared to Snake Meadow Hill Church, Gallup Cemetery, Save Family Tomb, and the tunnel system but the atmosphere is off-putting. Finding the words "they hate the light" on the floor, he walks to the right since there's a locked door blocking his path from going up.

In this room, three tall cultists are seen slowly walking towards John in the darkness. They move away slightly when his flashlight is pointed directly at them and move even faster when the crucifix is used. However, they cannot be banished. In the middle-upper area, there's a portrait of a woman. Exorcising the portrait while keeping the cultists at bay, he spots what looks like Nate and Jason Martin holding hands. When the portrait is exorcised, the next room opens. Inside the room, John picks up a key. He avoids the cultists and returns back to where he started. Opening the door, the room lights up, so he keeps waling forward. Suddenly, the same woman from the portrait appears right behind him, shouting "HERE I AM!".

The woman, who is wearing nun attire, walks toward John. She raises her hands up, as if trying to grab him, while her white, mask-like face starts to distort into having eyes and a mouth. She mutters, "My little one..." before she grabs her face in pain and disappears. A gray figure slowly walks towards John with his crucifix raised.

MiriamCutscene1

This figure was able to come just in time to rescue John. He tells him to not be afraid because, "When two or three are gathered in God's name, there will He be also." He says that they can banish the demon together, but that John has to protect him while he recites the 91st Psalm. Having formed their alliance, they walk onward.

Going into the next room, there's a satanic symbol with an inverted cross, the same cross John spotted in the Martin House basement a week ago. The figure, likely sensing John getting worked up from seeing it, tries to confide him. He tells him that it is true what happened to Amy but he's not a murderer. He says there's not much he could have done but hopes that Amy's soul is at rest. They press onward.

In the next room, the two corner the nun. She slowly turns around and makes a wide grin with her mask, shouting, "GET OUT!"

MiriamCutscene3

The gray figure begins reciting the 91st Psalm.

Phase 1[]

(This sparks one of three phases of the fight against the nun, who will be referred to as Miriam or Sister Bell from the notes found in Chapter II Prologue. The gray figure will be named Father Garcia because, beforehand, John doesn't know who the gray figure is but we, the player, do. Her boss fight is the most difficult from Chapter II and second-most from the whole series due to her frantic, rather unpredictable attack patterns. Follow these instructions carefully and try your best to best her and the thralls.)

As Father Garcia recites from the 91st Psalm, he holds his crucifix and follows Miriam wherever she teleports to. While he does this, point your crucifix at her to speed up this phase. Although Garcia is holding his cross, he doesn't actually do damage and is just there for cosmetics. I recommend staying in the middle of the screen because you might accidentally bump Miriam when she teleports to a new location. I recommend standing in one area and wait a bit until she moves to a new location and Garcia follows her. As the recital goes, thralls will appear from the doorways in the room and target Garcia first before you. You can be killed while they go towards him so be careful. Although letting Garcia die does not result in a game over, it will prevent you from getting the best ending. If you're performing the Good Christian Boy Steam Achievement, having Garcia die will fail the run and you will have to restart Marathon Mode again. Garcia, just like John, is very frail from mischievous demonic activity and will die from getting touched by a thrall or Miriam. During this phase, point your crucifix when you see a thrall popping up and target Miriam. When Garcia repeats his words, keep pointing the crucifix long enough for Phase 2 to begin.

Phase 2[]

After enough time, Miriam will shout an assortment of phrases and cuts the lights off. You're stuck using the flashlight for this part. Her attack pattern is almost similar to the Basement Demon from earlier; she will teleport from a random location and make a slow beeline towards you. She will scurry away and teleport to a different location to repeat this process. For maximum damage, let her get close enough to you so that you can point the cross at her longer. After a while, she will move up and down from your flashlight's radius and pause briefly, before starting the pattern again. Although you can actively hunt for her to speed this phase, I personally recommend you don't if you're going for the Steam Achievement. By all means, go ahead if you feel daring or you have to for a speed run. During all of this, it seems like Father Garcia disappeared from the room, so you don't have to worry about him. After some time, the lights will come back on, and Phase 3 starts.

Phase 3[]

This is the phase where she's at her deadliest. Her attack pattern is a mixture of attacks from demons faced earlier but faster. Garcia can be killed from her so be weary. Here's the attacks she can do.

  • This pattern is similar to Amy's and the Chalice Demon's. There's three fake versions of Miriam and there's only one that's real. Point the cross at the real one. You'll know it is when she's flashing red. This pattern is overall quick, and she will disappear quickly when it's done. If you're not fast enough, she'll ram towards you automatically and kills you.
  • This pattern is similar to the Umbilical Cord Demon. She spawns from a random area of the room and moves up and down in a wave-like pattern. This phase will end automatically regardless of if you point the cross at her or not. The only difficulty is that she's fast and might catch you off guard.
  • This pattern is similar to Amy's. A pentagram suddenly appears on the ground. She will start in a random point of the pentagram and moves in four places before going back to where she started. This attack will stop automatically regardless of if the cross is pointed or not.
  • This pattern is somewhat similar to the Basement Demon. Instead of teleporting away, she will make a dash in random directions multiple times. Point the cross at her quickly to move on from this phase because this move is the easiest to die from. Due to her randomness, you may get hit by random chance. Stay still the best you can and move accordingly.
  • This pattern is similar to the Graveyard Maze Demon. She makes a slow beeline towards you specifically and might teleport somewhere close to you to catch you off guard. Move accordingly.
  • This pattern is similar to the Graveyard Maze Demon. It's the same move but this time it's towards Father Garcia. It's the only move that can kill Garcia, the other moves will not hurt him. She will get repelled by the cross very easily from this attack because you have to be careful of both Garcia and you. Move accordingly.

Every time a new phase begins, she will teleport to a random location and start any of these moves. It's recommended that you stay still before seeing where she is to move, it's very likely to accidentally bump into her and get killed because of it. Take note of Father Garcia's position because she targets him here and there and his crucifix doesn't damage her at all. Generally, from personal experience, don't stand directly near her when she stays still. Keep a decent distance so that she won't move on her own and kill you.

This boss fight overall is relatively hard to predict. What is recommend before starting a Marathon Run is to practice the third phase of this boss on your Chapter II save file. Same goes for the final fight against another recurring antagonist in Chapter III as well due to their sporadic movement.

With enough time, Miriam stumbles over herself. She begins to scream as her body quickly evaporates into a red entity with multiple hands and an eye. It looks directly at John with red lights flashing.

MiriamCutscene4

John's eyes quickly open and wakes up from his bed, heavily breathing, revealing that most of Chapter II was just a dream.

Endings[]

1: "Go Forth With Faith"[]

This ending is achieved by defeating Sister Bell while keeping Father Garcia alive. You cannot perform any of the conditions to get the "Initiation" ending, it will automatically set you to the "Road to Redemption" ending; regardless of if Garcia lives or dies during the final battle (Don't worry about accidentally doing the conditions, you have to intentionally go out of your way to perform them).

Waking up from the nightmare, John reads a letter sent by Father Garcia, the priest that helped him in his dream but never (fully) seen before. In it, Garcia tells him that the Profane Sabbath is drawing near. If the cult finds Nate and Jason, he believes that they'll perform a ritual on them to summon a demon named Malphas. He says that he's in the process of finding their whereabouts and will keep him updated. He ends his letter that they cannot let them do what they've done to Amy. An exhausted John enters his car and drives off to an unknown destination. He monologues that his nightmares are getting worse and tries to from closure with Amy, saying that his work with her is done. He gains confidence to press on by finding the Martin Twins and stopping the summoning of Malphas. He notes that his upcoming journey will be his greatest test of faith yet and asks for God's mercy, knowing that whatever he will come across will be worse than his vivid dreams. He drives off.

Ch 2 ending 1 john

This is the canonical ending since the letter from Father Garcia is found right next to John's bed when he wakes up from a different nightmare in Chapter III.

2: "Road to Redemption"[]

This ending is achieved if Father Garcia is killed during the fight against Sister Bell or if you performed one or two of the three prerequisites to get the "Initiation" Ending.

Waking up from the nightmare, John reads a letter sent by Father Garcia, a person he's seen in his dream but never saw face-to-face before. In it, Garcia oddly knows the actions he performed in his dream, telling him it's not too late and his soul still can be saved. He tells him to wait for his next letter because, for now, he has many questions that still needs answers. He ends his letter that John needs to be careful and "They are watching you.". Driving off to an unknown destination, John expresses uncertainty if he really did the right thing. He's not sure what is real or not anymore and can feel a dark shadow looming over him. Feeling that his faith is becoming weak, he wonders if finding Nate and Jason will help him with whatever he's looking for. Driving away, a thrall in a bronco follows his trail.

Ch 2 ending 2 thrall

Since John doesn't getting a letter that explains he needs to stop Malphas, this ending is not canon to Chapter III.

3: "Initiation"[]

To achieve this ending, you must complete the following tasks:

  1. In Gallup Cemetery, after John stabs himself with a key, walk all the way back to the five rocks you first started controlling him and make a pentagram on the ground with the trail of blood (The note that was dropped by the Graveyard Maze Demon gives a hint on how to do this). Once it's done, a demon lunges after him from the woods, yelling "PANDEMONIUM REGNAT". You have to banish this demon before continuing. If John opens the gate to exit the cemetery, he stops bleeding, and you cannot perform this action. (If you do this accidentally, just close the game and restart before the game auto-saves when entering Snake Meadow Hill Church).
  2. After defeating the Spindly Lady inside Snake Meadow Hill Church and talking to the red figure in the confessional booth, exit the church and walk towards the cornfield in the background. When a purple child approaches you, turn around immediately (The note dropped after exorcising a scarecrow gives hints on what to do). If you look at this child at any time it will run away, but you can always go back to the cornfield and try again. Walk back to the confessional booth in the church. Walking towards the open curtains will cause a disembodied gray hand to take the child. If you try to leave, the hand will take you as well. The Mirror Demon makes a reappearance from Chapter I and has the same attack behavior. However, at some point, it will turn into a silhouette and goes towards you. You can tell where it is by seeing the outline from the gray skeletons on the floor. With enough time, the demon will be defeated and you will be teleported back inside the church. Make sure you do this before solving the puzzle with the UNSPEAKABLE, when you leave the church through the basement you can't return to the church or the cemetery again.
  3. After reading a newspaper article and melting into a Wretch, walk throughout the Unseen World until you come across a bridge. When you do, don't crawl forward and go down instead. Going up the incline, you have to kill the traveling couple that are trying to repair their car. You have to kill the man and woman to complete the goal; letting any of them escape will cause a failure and won't get the ending. If you ever fail, an Airdorf truck will always speed by on the road. Get run over by it so that you can retry the sequence again. Reset if you turned back into regular John again prematurely.

With all of these steps done, complete the game as normal; go inside the Candy Tunnels, Malphas' House, beat Miriam, and wake up from the nightmare. The one notable thing is that you can access a note when you complete all of these steps in Malphas' House. In the room where you picked up a key, go up. Underneath an inverted cross is a note, congratulating John and saying that "they'll" visit soon. This is optional and you don't have to pick up the note for the rest of the ending to play out.

Waking up from the nightmare, there's no letter from Father Garcia near his front door. Instead, a note sits in the kitchen; a patient release form, dated October 31st, 1986. Written by Dr. Spinel, he feels like John has gotten better from his counseling sessions and feels like he can integrate back into society. The backdoor to the backyard is open as well, so he walks outside.

The screen fades into John walking to the middle of a pentagram with thralls, cultists, and one cultist holding a trident standing in the distance. The UNSPEAKABLE slowly lowers down from the sky and gets closer to him.

Initation

Staring at the entity with hollow eyes and a missing collar, John's eyes begin to bleed and the game ends.

John bleeding

This ending is not canon because it's heavily implied that John is still dreaming, since his backyard doesn't match his real one seen in Chapter III. This is still the worst ending because the UNSPEAKABLE is able to use John as a vessel to do whatever it pleases because he "served his demon". He fell into the dark side of himself and became a part of the cult. If it were canon, Chapter III would've played out much differently.

Dialogue[]

John in the Confession Booth[]

  • John: "Pray for me, Father, for I have sinned."
  • ???: "What sins have you come to confess?"

Differences Between Standalone and The Unholy Trinity[]

As stated previously, there are some minor cosmetic differences between the 2019 release and the 2022 release of Chapter II. Only one of them is really noteworthy.

  • The color of John's room is a lilac color in The Unholy Trinity. Before, it was brown, the same color as Father Garcia's apartment.
  • A Turbo Mode is unlocked once getting one of the endings for Chapter II in The Unholy Trinity. There's 2x Speed and 4x Speed (both are equally janky).
  • When Father Garcia wards off Miriam, his physical appearance is a silhouette of his later, full appearance in Chapter III in the Unholy Trinity edition. Father Garcia looks like a gray reskin of John in the original version of the game.
    • This gray silhouette looks like what the gray figure from Chapter I would have looked like in rotoscope animation. Due to the figure not introducing himself as Father Garcia, and that the animation doesn't fully look like what Garcia looks like, which is the sole reason as to why we refer to this encounter as the gray figure. Although John has seen the figure in the forest, he doesn't truly know who it is, and his subconsciousness imagined the figure as someone who's helpful.
  • Garcia rotoscope copy
  • Father Garcia cannot be killed during Miriam's pentagram attack in The Unholy Trinity. Previously, he could've been killed.
  • If you were fighting against Miriam in the conditions for the "Initiation" Ending, her sprite would twitch more often during Father Garcia's recital and has a unique distort sprite in the standalone version. It seems like this was removed in The Unholy Trinity, though.
This is what she would've looked during the Initiation Ending

Trivia[]

  • A note that can be found at the entrance of the Gallup Cemetery that reads "I shook hands with the Devil I looked him in the eye He looked like a long-lost friend" is a reference to a Van Halen song titled "Mine All Mine"
  • Strangely, the animation where John melts into a Wretch is titled "spr_CH2_cine_MikeInAgony" and holding the key then stabbing himself in Save Family Tomb is, "spr_CH2_cine_mirrorMike0" and "spr_CH2_cine_mirrorMike02" respectively.
  • If you are playing on controller when you get the note in the ritualistic pentagram, it will start to vibrate once you are around halfway done reading the note, with the vibrations getting more and more stronger as you scroll down.

Speculation[]

Due to how much John is an unreliable narrator/viewer because of his underlining delusions and the fact that most of Chapter II is a dream, it is difficult to pinpoint whether most of the actions going on in the dream ever apply to the series. Airdorf previously stated (in the FAITH Fan Discord) that John's subconscious is trying to understand the world going on around him. And by judging the events showed during the dream and afterwards in Chapter III, John having this nightmare was important for upcoming events for Chapter III and provided a lot of contexts that was needed to understand the world of the series.

  • The Gallup Cemetery and the deaths of Sandra, Troy, and Angel occurred between Chapter I and II (within a week) by context clues from the Newspaper Article found after exiting the shed.
  • Snake Meadow Hill Church and the disappearance of three Paranormal Investigators happened between the two Chapters as well by reading the notes left behind.
  • The Candy Tunnels' reports of two recently discovered bodies and a deadly shootout occurred between the two Chapters from rereading the article closely.
  • Fighting against Miriam and Thralls in Malphas' Home was supposed to indicate John's next goal on how to stop the Order of the Second Death.

Overall, these events of deaths and disappearances were released to the public through articles or news reports that John has seen. The appearances of them in his dreams means that he suspects his second failed exorcism of Amy is loosely causing all of these to happen and feels like he's getting indirectly targeted by unknown forces. The events of the Candy Tunnels and the Church have been going on long before John returned to the Martin House but he's slowly starting to connect the two recent events to his doing. This also explains why an unknown demonic voice blames John for the deaths of Amy, Sandra, Angel, and Troy; his depression and guilt over failing to exorcise Amy and leaving her to die in the forest is impacting him to a greater extent. He thinks that he's the blame and is going mental over it.

The first appearance of the UNSPEAKABLE in this chapter signifies that the cult is actively targeting John to make him mentally weak to either have him join by manipulating his emotions or to have him kill himself by overwhelming him with his own guilt (which is personified by stabbing himself with a key). They are also trying to reopen old wounds by having him explore in the church he was orphaned in, he did this earlier in Chapter II Prologue. John is his worst enemy and cannot resist getting mentally drained by the cult. The good ending for this chapter means all the more to him; despite feeling his faith is fleeting, he gains courage to combat whatever invisible force is preventing him from finding closure from Amy by finding Nate and Jason Martin and stopping Malphas from getting summoned. He is overall aimless but has a loose idea on what he has to do now, because otherwise the impact of failing his second exorcism made him a basket case and vulnerable by the cult. He also gets help from a stranger he doesn't really know too much (Father Garcia) but is determined to push through.

To recap my insane ramblings:

After John returns to his house after leaving Amy to die, Gary and his cult surrounding the local area of the forest discover Amy almost bleeding to death from jumping off of the attic. They performed the Second Death ritual on her when she escaped from a mental institution earlier and were gathering more sacrifices to put through her portal to hell. With Amy unresponsive, Gary cannot use her for summoning the Antichrist. Enraged, Gary tries to track down who tampered with his plans. Finding out that John was the one who decided to return to the Martin House, he tries to mentally drain John enough to be the next candidate for the Second Death ritual by making him restless through nightmares.

John begins to have recurring nightmares that are slowly getting worse, indicated by the gameplay in Chapter II Prologue. During all of this, Gary is trying to prepare a second plan to increase maximum damage on the world before the Profane Sabbath comes and goes, performing more rituals and sacrifices to summon Malphas. The Sterling Police Department is starting to notice the new wave of ritualistic murders and are trying to track down who's doing all of this. These reports of deaths and disappearances are getting reported to news stations and articles, where John sees them. This all leads up to Chapter II where John has his worst nightmare and starts to genuinely feel like someone, or something is stalking him.
