New Haven Apartment Complex is a location that appears in FAITH: Chapter III.

It is a residential block containing 16 apartments, located at 665 Orange St., New Haven, Connecticut, 06511.

It serves as the second location that John Ward is sent to explore by Father Garcia and Lisa Pearson in Chapter III.

History[]

For an indeterminate amount of time until October 31st, 1987, the apartment complex would be operated by Gary Miller as its landlord, presumably in the search for vessels worthy of a Second Death ritual.

It's unknown how long the apartment building has been active for, but it seems like it's been running for at the very least a year judging from the Williams Family Newsletter. Lisa, Tiffany, Timmy, and other tenants have been living there for a while, but it seems like Gary started to take over the building sometime in October of 1987.

October 31st, 1986[]

A tenant named Debbie throws an annual Halloween party at her apartment room, Room 9B. She has a son named Timmy and invites all her family and friends to the occasion. However, the partygoers perform tricks that scared Timmy. They apparently snuck up and scared him, but since he has asthma, he reacted poorly to the trick. Debbie also thinks that they're responsible for turning off the lights to the building, but it's not known if they're to blame or something else. Either way, next year Debbie wants to make sure the party is as family-friendly as possible so that Timmy won't be so traumatized.

Between September 21st - September 28th, 1987[]

Almost a whole year has passed since Debbie's Halloween party. Sometime after John failed his second exorcism with Amy, Gary and his cult killed two locals near the Candy Tunnels as a sacrifice for a demon to prepare for the UNSPEAKABLE's arrival. He and Miriam have been doing this since May of 1987, however, the locals finally pressured the Sterling Police Department to raid the sewage system with the recent discovery of the bodies. The locals think a culprit nicknamed the Candy Store Killer might be the one who's doing all the killing.

One day, the police raid the tunnels and witnesses report of hearing shooting about ten minutes after they raided the place. The next day, law enforcement officials report to the news that multiple officers were wounded and one was killed during a shootout. They didn't say if the killer was wounded during the exchange and are in the process of recovering from the casualty. An unnamed police officer, however, knows what truly happened in there. He claims that what they're doing with is not human, that he witnessed a beast dragged the remains of an officer named Jenkins into its lair. He summarizes that all the child prostitute runaways and people with GRID can return to the sewage for all he cares so that it can satiate the beast's thirst to kill.

In reality, the Peekaboo Demon is the Beast of the Candy Tunnels. Even though it was able to ward off the police officers, Gary knows that his cult will eventually get crushed by the Police Department if they ever decide to raid the area again. The Order abandons the sewage system and start to slowly take over the apartment complex instead. Before doing so, he successfully summons Malphas to the world in the inner systems of the tunnel.

October 1987[]

Gary cannot immediately take over the complex whenever he wants, it will likely bring suspicion to the Sterling Police Department and have the place either raided or the Department of Health will shut it down like they did at an abortion clinic. So, Gary slowly gets to know the tenants that live there so that his friendliness isn't suspicious and can gradually take over the area, starting with Debbie.

When Debbie makes her second William Family Newsletter, she writes to the invitees that they need to keep the party as family friendly as possible. Satanic and anti-religious imagery aren't allowed, overly scary costumes are banned, and they cannot perform tricks on Timmy anymore. Interestingly, Debbie notes that Timmy has a new imaginary friend. If they do see him it's best to play along, quoting from Timmy's therapist that it's just a coping mechanism. She ends her newsletter that she can't wait for all of them to meet Mr. Miller, since he's taken care of Timmy so well that it's like he's become a part of the family.

Although this is speculation, it seems like Gary summoned the Elevator Demon because he sees how lonely Timmy is, likely from the fact that his mom is an overprotective parent. Having a friend wherever he goes would be something that would entice a young child like him. However, this imaginary friend isn't so friendly as it seems. It has taken Timmy into the Unseen World version of the 7th Floor, a floor that's impossible to reach without playing the Elevator Game. Debbie is in distraught of her missing son and wants to see him again. A note found in the real 7th Floor implies that Gary promised she can see him again by making a replacement of Timmy. It can only be done through using the corpses of people. Although she says that she needs a few more bodies, her fate is unknown and might've killed herself as the final act to bring her son back. The Elevator Friend and Timmy hold hands and lurk around the 7th Floor.

Gary has now fully taken control of the complex and allowed his thralls to live there in exchange for paying for rent and utilities. Tiffany has been faithful to him for a long time, but she realizes the ultimate goal of his actions; use Amy as a vessel for the Second Death to bring the Antichrist. She has been trying to gain Gary's unrequited love ever since she joined the cult and felt backstabbed when she learned this. Overflowing with jealousy and hatred, she plans to sabotage Gary's plans and perform the Second Death ritual herself to one-up Amy.

Gary already planned to use Lisa, an orphan who got entangled with Miriam's plans at Snake Meadow Hill Church, as a vessel for the UNSPEAKABLE to possess. However, he finds out what Tiffany is planning to do and considers it as betrayal to the cult. He tries to stick with his original plan; use Lisa as a vessel and summon the Peekaboo Demon in preparations for the UNSPEAKABLE.

This part isn't entirely clear, but Tiffany summons Alu, who put a seal over Lisa's door which ends up making it difficult for Gary to access her. Gary makes an announcement to his thralls that he doesn't know the demon's purpose, and suspects it might be Tiffany's doing, but considers it as a test of their faith. Gary makes another announcement that "a very special visitor" has come to prepare for the UNSPEAKABLE's arrival. He notes that it has full access to the entire building and one of them will be blessed to have the demon make its lair in their room. He suggests to not look down at the hole it makes, even if they hear voices emitting from it. If they ever think their fellow thralls are in the hole, they are to contact him so that he can retrieve their corpses. Otherwise, he recommends to not approach or speak to it if they're lucky enough to see it. He reminds them that rent and utilities are due by Friday and "Gary Loves you".

Tiffany has performed the Second Death on herself successfully. Even though previously she mentions that seven newborn infants are needed to put in the vessel's face, blood on the wall in the basement says, "Not Seven; Seventy Times Seven". She has taken way more sacrifices than necessary and hides herself in the Unseen World version of the 7th Floor. She leaves a note behind to Gary to meet her if he dares. Since she has taken the majority of sacrifices intended for the Peekaboo Demon, it has become restless and started to attack thralls. Gary doesn't have time to deal with Tiffany's issues and to unlock the seal on Lisa's door, despite knowing how to do it. He goes underneath a Daycare Center on 4th Street to prepare for the Profane Sabbath with Miriam.

So, this all means that Lisa is trapped and possessed by Alu. Nobody can enter her room, meaning she can't be used as a vessel for the UNSPEAKABLE. The Peekaboo Demon is restless and is attacking everyone it comes across since Tiffany used the intended sacrifices for her makeshift Second Death ritual. She secludes herself in the Unseen World version of the 7th Floor to entice Gary, either to impress him or kill him. The thralls living at the complex are tasked by Gary to eviscerate John if he ever comes inside the building; preferably still alive so that he can at least perform the Second Death ritual on him since Amy is still unresponsive underneath the Crucible. All of this leads up to the events of Chapter III.

October 29th, 1987[]

After waking up from a nightmare, John comes across letters written by Father Garcia and Lisa. Garcia tasks him to explore the New Haven Apartment Complex because he suspects that the cult might try to summon Malphas there. Lisa has been trying to contact him for help, she's stuck in the same complex by her neighbors and can't leave. She can't trust Tiffany either because she hasn't seen her in a while. She tells him that Tiffany might have a spare key to her room and to come as quickly as he can. John drives to the apartment building.

among the damned[]

John parks outside the building and goes inside. Even though it's in good condition, the area is empty and seems like there's no activity going on. Going to the left, there's a letter on the floor, supposedly from Lisa. The letter is very formal and has a different tone compared to the other letters John has; She says that she hasn't been feeling well but got better and is on vacation out of the country, so he won't find her at home. John says, "I should check my other letters from Lisa." and further explores the building.

Going to Room 3B, Tiffany's Room, John finds the spare key mentioned in one of Lisa's letters. A blood trail leads to a locked door. Walking out, the static on a TV change to Tiffany's face. However, her face has a red, gaping hole; representing that she has performed the Second Death on herself. Outside the room, the atmospheric music slowly progresses to sounds similar to stomping.

Taking the elevator to Room 5A, Lisa's Room, there's a large seal (bright red circle with symbols) covering a door. Going to the bathroom, John finds a note written by Gary. Gary says that if the reader wants to remove the Seal of Alu, they have to find a blood-stained dagger and a mask if they want to get rid of it. Close to the note is a blue key to Room 10M. Attempting to exorcise the seal doesn't yield anything, but it leaves blood on the wall that gives a rough description as to what they look like.

Although John can try to exorcise a dagger found in Room 2A earlier, it doesn't do anything. However, after attempting to exorcise the seal, the dagger now has blood on it and exorcising it will remove one of the two seals in Room 5A. There's a staircase underneath a table in the room but currently there's no way to access it.

Taking the elevator to Floor 10, John enters Room 10M with the key he found in Room 5A. Next to the door is a message written on the wall, "Sacrifice What You Cling To". Inside the room is a dumbwaiter and instructions on how to use it. There's also a camera that points towards the basement of the building. Putting the crucifix in the dumbwaiter, a demon is now seen standing near the staircase to the basement on the camera.

Attempting to walk down the building through the stairs is impossible; Wretches block the way. John is forced to use the elevator to retrieve his cross. But, the elevator automatically stops at Floor 4 and can't go down anymore. A thrall is seen ducking away when the elevator door opens. Going to the right, there's a note on the floor, saying, "Gary lied to us. When you see it, RUN". In the next room there's a camera and a decimated thrall on the ground, with blood next to the body saying, "I SAW IT". Picking up the camera, the lights for the entire building turn off.

John has to traverse through the darkness with the flash from his camera. While he flashes, there's chances of either seeing: A blood trail from himself, a thrall running towards him, a flashback of the Martin House's attic back in 1986, and a rotoscope animation of Malphas turning around.

Taking the staircase to Floor 3, the rest of the way is blocked by more Wretches. He has to go inside Room 3B to bypass them. A door leading to Tiffany's bedroom is now open. Although her room looks relatively normal, there's a secret entrance that connects to Room 3A. However, thralls are seen standing around an altar. Sneaking past them, John comes across a large hole on the ground surrounded by dead thralls and a green person. He walks out of the room and goes down to Floor 2.

Once again Wretches block the way, so John goes inside Room 2A. The staircase underneath a table is now available to walk through. It's another secret entrance, but, halfway through walking, the Peekaboo Demon appears and gives chase. Navigating through the dark with the camera, John escapes its grasp and comes out of Room 2B.

The path to the basement is simple, the demon stopped giving chase and John can pick up his crucifix. The lights come back on. Walking to the right, John comes across an inverted cross made out of blood and satanic symbols; this is where Tiffany performed her makeshift Second Death ritual. Nearby is a note from Tiffany, enticing Gary to meet her in the Unseen World since she has gone "beyond". There's also a mask nearby as well; exorcising it will remove the second seal and the pathway to Lisa is open.

Attempting to leave the basement, the Peekaboo Demon appears and makes its final attempt to kill John. It teleports around the room, some of the candles on the ground light up, indicating where the demon is. The demon spurts several sentences when it gets repelled by the cross, such as "BETRAYER" and "PULL OUT YOUR EYES". With enough times, it says "YOU BELONG TO HER" and disappears, defeated.

Walking out of the basement, John gets ambushed by Alu and gets possessed by it. During the possession process, John sees an illusion of Malphas staring down directly at him. Although uncontrollable for a moment, he comes back to normal.

Walking back to Room 5A, John opens the now unsealed door. Inside, five Wretches are in the corner of the room and Lisa stands in the middle. John tries to chitchat with her but she's responding with weird answers. He tells her that they have to go but she says, "I'M NOT LISA".

(If you want a more detailed fight with Alu, check his wiki page). With some back-and-forth possession, John banishes Alu, and Lisa flees. In the next room, they have a proper conversation. Lisa tells him that a man named Gary Miller runs the building and that he has to stop him. John asks if she has a place to stay but she disregards it, telling him that he has to get going.

Although John is able to drive back to his home, he senses that there was a seal broken "somewhere beyond". Summoning and banishing the Elevator Demon, it drops a note that eludes on how to play the Elevator Game. John does so and lands himself in the Unseen World version of Floor 7.

In one room, there's a lone window that has a floating red cross among buildings.

In the next room, there's satanic symbols that lead to a darken area. In the middle of a symbol, Tiffany stands in the darkness. Tiffany feels the presence of someone walking in, thinking that it's Gary and that he's finally come looking for her. John, however, thinks that it's Amy and tries to call out to her. Tiffany, feeling disappointed that Amy was mentioned, tells him that she's just the "Rejected Vessel". Before Tiffany's demon appears, she says that she has done more than Amy has ever done and is above her. A fight ensues.

Tiffany's Demon

(If you want a more detailed fight with Tiffany, check her wiki page). With enough exorcism, Tiffany's demon screeches as dozens of ghosts escape her body. When it's done, her lifeless body is left on the ground. Leaving the room, Tiffany's corpse attempts to kill John one last time by crawling to him like a spider. Exorcised once more, she is defeated and leaves a blood stain on the ground. A note from Gary is found nearby, congratulating John that he wasted a day helping a worthless soul but helped him to get rid of Tiffany. He ends his letter questioning what side John is on and that they'll see soon enough.

Attempting to take the elevator back to the normal world, the buttons don't work and there's a hole on the ground. Written around it is "damnatio memoriae", Latin for damnation of memory. Jumping down three times (possibly because the elevator displays 10 in the unseen world), John finds himself in the real 7th Floor.

Exiting Hidden 7th Floor

There's only one room open, Room 7A. Inside, there's a gigantic idol that looks similar to the Elevator Friend. Underneath it, the corpse of Timmy lays on the ground with brown-ish flesh around him; indicating that it might originate from the Elevator Demon. There's a butcher knife nearby and a wheelbarrow filled with gore. After exorcising Timmy, he disappears, and a note drops from Debbie. It says that she just needs a few more bodies to see Timmy again. The other room, Room 7B, is locked.

John goes back inside the elevator to Floor 1 and leaves the building. The screen fades to where the Crucible is, and one of the seals disappears. This is the last time we see the apartment building.

Aftermath[]

With all the original tenants dead and thralls decimated from the Peekaboo Demon, it's reasonable to assume that the building will go under. All of the bodies would alert the Sterling Police Department to try and finally pin down the cult that have been causing all of these deaths. It all leads up to the Daycare Center where there's multiple cops positioned right outside the front door.

Trivia[]

  • In Tiffany's bedroom, there's a poster on a wall that says Priest Cop. (It's a running gag with some other YouTube creator but I can't remember somebody add that.)

  • The rooms that you will never access are Room 1B, 4A, 4B, 5B, 6A, 6B, 8B, 9A, 9B, and 10B (There's only Maintenance, the other door doesn't have a letter assigned to it).
  • If Lisa dies during the battle in room 5A (happens if John touches her while possessed), a game over will not happen, however the seal to Tiffany's room does not disappear. Therefore, all you have left to do after that is leave the building and drive away. You can still complete the chapter, but you will not be able to get the best ending.
  • After seeing the giant idol in the real 7th Floor, the Elevator Friend and Timmy don't appear again.
  • The music that plays while the elevator doesn't work and has the "damnatio memorie" hole is actually a slowed down version of the regular elevator music, at 20% of the original speed.
  • The entire sequence of the apartment building is almost just as long as Chapter I.
  • It is never stated why Gary decided to take over the apartments in the first place.
