HERETIC!

The Spindly Lady is a Ghost who was converted into a demonic entity that appears in FAITH: Chapter II and III.

Biography[]

The Spindly Lady is a ghostly, shadowy figure with long fingers and a dress or skirt of sorts. She has red eyes and messy hair. Underneath her chest looks like some kind of skeletal spine or rib cage.

FAITH: Chapter II[]

When John enters Snake Meadow Hill Church for the first time, he will see candles placed in each room that resemble the layout of the church's ground floor. One candle will always be lit, its placement corresponds with the room John is in. A second candle will be lit as well, which represents the room the Spindly Lady is in. The ghost will become visible when it and John are in the same room, i.e., when there's only one candle lit, and the color on the screen is starting to distort and bleed. The best way to fight this ghost is to wander around the room for a bit, this will cause her to appear. Her attack pattern is teleporting to three random locations in the room then charging at John in a straight line. Move around her quickly and use the crucifix when necessary. After doing this enough times, she will be banished and the seal to the basement will open.

When John touches her while she teleports around the room or when she charges him, he will be killed. If John leaves any room three times in quick succession the ghost will teleport in front of John in the next room and shriek. This will freeze the controls and make John unable to react. She will then kill him. She does this regardless of if they're in the same room or not.

While exploring the church, John can find notes left behind Paranormal Investigators that were trying to record supernatural activities on their camera equipment in hopes of selling their footage to TV stations for a fortune. While their fates remain unknown, they were likely attacked and killed by the Spindly Lady. (Click on the page about the Paranormal Investigators for a more in-depth backstory).

FAITH: Chapter III[]

During the fight against Gary, he will summon apparitions of the Demons and spirits John had to face throughout the series. The Spindly Lady can be one of the apparitions summoned to knock down John and his crucifix.

Quotes[]

  • Presumably either "THRALLS WILL SLASH" or "THUS IS FLESH" (Introduction)

  • "HERETIC!" (Defeat)

Trivia[]

  • The design of this Demon was selected as the winner for the developer's open character design contest, announced before the full version of Chapter II was released back in 2018. This person just so happens to be CrackedGhostGames, who went on to create FAITH: Demon Siege.
    • Additionally, Note 17 of Chapter II, the one written by Father Clarke, reads out "Thanks Cracked Ghost Games", if you look at the first letter of each line.

Theories[]

  • The Spindly Lady might be the old elderly nun mentioned in Chapter II's Prologue.
    • This can't be Miriam Bell because she's still alive in 1987. It can't be another nameless woman mentioned in the Prologue as well because she was regarded missing when Miriam first became employed at the church (or that this nameless woman was Miriam who was regarded missing by the writer in the note, however, look at the page about the Stalker to disregard this). This leaves the elderly nun since it was stated that she died when Miriam was employed. It's likely that due to the church's demonic history of something lurking in the cornfield taking children and Miriam's antics that made her spirit chained to the church and unable to pass on.
  • Although the rhyme mentioned is said to be recited for "summoning the spirit of a woman who used to take care of the orphans back in the 50s", this woman is likely not to be the Demon, but instead referring to Miriam Bell, as the appearance of the church Demon is an original design created by CrackedGhostGames.
    • It's likely that the character of the Spindly Lady was going to be implemented into the game either way, but the developers of FAITH wanted a design for the spirit from a fan.
    • It could also mean that the Spindly Lady is just a random demonic entity that haunts the church for unknown reasons, maybe due to all the sacrifices being done around the place.
