The Cornfield is a location that appears in FAITH: Chapter II and is the primary location for its Prologue. It surrounds Snake Meadow Hill Church.
History[]
1950s[]
In the 50s, Snake Meadow Hill Church functioned as an orphanage. One day, a mysterious demon made its home in the cornfields surround the church, making the staff members and children uneasy. A dog kept at the church suddenly bolted off into the cornfields, only to be found mutilated and dead two days later. One of the workers at the church strongly discouraged the children from wandering into the cornfield, but they end up doing so anyway and meet the same fate as the dog. The church closes down for some time.
A few years later, the church reopens, with new workers and a new set of six children, it seems for the time being the cornfield demon is no longer a threat. However, strange behavior among the children and Sister Bell is reported, such as the children standing in a row along the edge of the cornfield while they look into the field and watch Bell speak to them. Among these children are a young John and Lisa.
Miriam and the kids all wind up missing one day and a detective is sent out to investigate it. Four strange dolls made of sticks appear outside the church and the detective experiences a dream in which people painted in red are standing in the fields, staring at them.
At some point before or after the Bell incident, the original staff member of the church returns to it. They report seeing a "doomed child" standing in the corn, described as having a bloody, gaping hole instead of a face. It ran away into the fields when they attempted to look at it.
September 22 to 27, 1987[]
John Ward has a dream centered around Snake Meadow Hill Church. The cornfield lies in front of the church, in between it and the road. A scarecrow lies in the center, and when John tries to venture beyond, he will inevitably come across the cornfield demon. The cornfield is impossible to navigate until it is defeated, after which John can finally begin heading to the church.
If John returns to the cornfield after defeating the Basement Demon within the church, he will find that the scarecrow now has glowing red eyes and a series of runes drawn around it on the ground. John can then light the scarecrow on fire using the flames from his car, triggering the "GET OUT" ending. Dozens of purple children begin to walk out of the corn once he does this task.
September 28, 1987[]
John experiences another dream that takes him back to the cornfield. This time however, it is located behind the church. It still has the scarecrow but the cornfield demon now seems to be absent. When he first arrives in the area, a child can be seen running up past the church and into the field.
If John returns to the cornfield after entering the confessional booth within the church, he may now encounter the doomed child.
