Tiffany Robinson is a minor antagonist and secret boss first introduced in FAITH: Chapter III. She is a member of Gary's cult and vies for his affection. However, she's succeeded by Amy Martin, whom she envies.

Appearance[]

Tiffany is first encountered in game, she's naked, missing her head, and has a large demon resting on her shoulders.

Tiffany's Demon is a large gray monster that looks like it's bursting out of Tiffany's beheaded neck. It has bright red eyes and an abnormally elongated bottom jaw with sharp teeth similar to Malphas. It has four appendages holding on to Tiffany's arms and legs, with two large appendages rest on Tiffany's shoulders. It seems to control her body, save for her speaking.

An official OST thumbnail gives us more information about her appearance before her possession[1]. She looks similar to Amy, with John even mistaking Tiffany for Amy when he first encounters her. Her hair is shoulder-length and her sprite's color is a dull pink. She can be seen wielding the dagger found in Chapter III.

Personality[]

Like most members of the Order of the Second Death, Tiffany is a fanatical follower of Gary who would do anything to help him succeed. Tiffany also holds romantic feelings towards Gary and, as a consequence, became envious of Amy Martin, who was favored by him. To prove how much she loves him, Tiffany willingly performed the Second Death ritual on herself with the help of other cult members. She is former friends with Lisa Pearson.

Biography[]

Early 1986[]

Into the early months of 1986, Tiffany is a part of a cult named the Eternal Order of the Second Death. She begins to hold feelings for Gary, but he doesn't reciprocate. Gary doesn't reciprocate her feelings and sometimes think she's a nuisance, but her fanatical devotion proves that he can rely on her to co-manage operations while he's busy doing other things. Much like other cult members, Gary keeps Tiffany in the dark as to what they're truly doing.

At some undisclosed timeframe, Gary operates a clinic somewhere in Connecticut where he can gather newborns and use them as sacrifices for when he eventually finds a worthy vessel. The Department of Health[2] and the local police department (Sterling Police Department)[3] get suspicious of activities occurring within the premises and believe that there's a violation. Gary sleazes his way through, and the clinic remains operational thanks to Tiffany for co-running everything. One day, Gary sends a fax to another cult member named Rhonda, who seems to be acting as a receptionist, to make sure not to pickup any calls from the Department of Health until either he or Tiffany are contacted[2].

October, 1987[]

Lisa, who also lives in the apartments, contacts John, telling him how she feels unsafe and asks him to visit. She advises him to meet with Tiffany, her friend, if Lisa herself never answers the door[4]. However, in a later letter to John, Lisa says that "Tiffany can't be trusted"[5].

At an undisclosed point, Tiffany realizes what Gary's true intentions are: using Amy as a vessel for the Second Death. Tiffany believes that Gary's sights have reached far too low and becomes jealous that Amy was Gary's favorite[6]. She plans to sabotage the cult by blocking entry to Lisa's apartment room. Gary catches wind of this and makes an announcement to all of his thralls that Tiffany has betrayed his trust and the will of the UNSPEAKABLE. He goads Tiffany to help her friend because the UNSPEAKABLE will crush them both[7].

Shortly thereafter, Tiffany figures out a way to block Lisa's door by summoning Alu. The demon places his seal on Lisa's door so that nobody can enter or leave, and eventually possesses her.

Tiffany brings her next plan into fruition by performing her own makeshift Second Death ritual with thralls who defected from Gary. However, she overdoes it and believes the reason why nobody has done the ritual successfully is because more than seven sacrifices were needed[6]. So, she uses the sacrifices that were intended for the Peekaboo Demon and becomes an abomination[8]. She hides away in the Unseen World version of the 10th Floor to tempt Gary to follow her, either as an attempt to kill him or to show how much better she is than Amy[9].

October 28th, 1987 (Chapter III)[]

Cutting back to John, a month passes ever since he experienced his worst nightmare yet. A month ago, he received a letter from a stranger named Father Garcia who requests him to look for Amy's missing brothers, Nate and Jason, in order to stop the cult from summoning a great demon named Malphas. John wakes up from a nightmare where he reexperiences his first exorcism and finds a new letter from Garcia. Garcia instructs him to investigate a clinic Amy used to intern at to see if Malphas would be summoned there. John mentally prepares himself and drives to the location.

John reaches his destination and sneaks into the building, there's a lone police officer blocking the front entrance for an unknown reason.

Exterior clinic

you feel watched[]

John hops out of a broken window and lands himself in the front entrance. The area looks deteriorated & barren. The front door is boarded up so apparently the clinic was shut down at some point. There's a fax nearby a front desk, the same one Gary wrote to Rhonda where he asks her to not call back the Department of Health until either he's contacted or leaves a message for Tiffany. Otherwise, John defeats a woman and a horde of babies who were hiding behind a locked door in the basement of the clinic. There were no signs of Malphas nor the Martin Twins, so John heads back home.

October 29th, 1987[]

Next day, John finds a new letter from Father Garcia, instructing him to investigate an apartment complex in New Haven. Additionally, there's two other letters from Lisa, who asked him to rescue her from her creepy neighbors and to grab a spare key from Tiffany's room. John hops into his car and reaches his destination. He enters inside.

Ch3 Apartment

among the damned[]

The building appears to be in good condition but it's eerily silent. John relooks at his letters from Lisa and investigates Room 3B, Tiffany's room. He finds the spare key mentioned in one of Lisa's notes and prepares to leave, but the static from a nearby TV briefly changes to Tiffany's face before defaulting back to static. Her face has a gaping, bloody hole, signifying that she recently had the Second Death performed on her, likely from defecting thralls considering that nobody can perform the ritual by themselves.

Room3b

John takes the elevator to Lisa's room, Room 5A, and sees a large pentagram covering a door, preventing anybody to open it. Reading a note left behind by Gary, John attempts to remove the seal by purifying a bloody dagger in Room 2A. Doing so causes one of the seals to disappear. He finds a note left behind by Tiffany where she plans to surpass Amy.

aking the elevator to Floor 10, John enters Room 10M with the key he found in Room 5A. Next to the door is a message written on the wall, "Sacrifice What You Cling To" Inside the room is a dumbwaiter and instructions on how to use it. There's also a monitor feed of a camera that points towards the basement of the building. Since there's nothing much else to do, John mutters, "So be it." and places his crucifix onto the dumbwaiter. He watches his crucifix plummet all the way down to the basement.

Dumbwaiter

John retrieves his crucifix by nearly escaping the Peekaboo Demon's grasp, who was creeping around in the basement before realizing John is completely vulnerable, and three thralls who were standing around an altar all by using the flash of a camera he found in one of the floors. He walks down towards the basement and finds his crucifix. Investigating the right area, John comes across an inverted cross made out of blood and satanic symbols; this is where Tiffany performed her makeshift Second Death ritual. Nearby is a note from Tiffany, enticing Gary to meet her in the Unseen World since she has gone "beyond". There's also a mask nearby as well; purifying it removes the second seal in Lisa's room. Additionally, there's blood on the wall that says, "not seven" and "SEVENTY times seven"

Not7
70times7

This is a nod back to a note in Chapter I[10] where it details that seven * (likely newborns) are needed to perform the Second Death ritual. Tiffany, in this case, believed more sacrifices were necessary before undergoing the ritual. This could mean that either all the newborns that were stolen back in the clinic were smuggled into the apartment complex to be used as sacrifices or she just used all the dead tenants as sacrifices instead, it's hard to say. Nearby lies a ritualistic mask, John purifies it and the seal back in Lisa's room is gone. Nearby lies another note written by Tiffany, goading Gary to look for her in the Unseen World since she has gone beyond.

John takes the elevator back to Room 5A after banishing the Peekaboo Demon and briefly getting possessed by Alu. After a short battle, John banishes Alu and saves Lisa. Once he steps out of her room, he senses that a seal has broken "somewhere beyond". In order to reach the Unseen World, he plays the Elevator Game by inputting the sequence 1, 4, 2, 6, 2, 10, 5, 1 into the buttons, bringing him to a secret "10th" Floor. Following a trail of satanic symbols, John spots a woman, Tiffany, standing motionlessly in the darkness.

Tiffany Room Pre-Boss

Sensing somebody is behind her, Tiffany believes that Gary is in the room with her, so she calls out to him and asks if he's finally come looking for her. John mistakes her for Amy, making Tiffany disappointed that Amy was even brought up. John asks who Gary is, but Tiffany gives him a vague answer, saying that he's a human just like him and her. The lighting in the area grows a bit brighter, revealing her missing head. Tiffany tells John that she did this to show Him what she could do for Him. John worriedly asks if she did that to herself. Tiffany responds that she was the first to perform the Ritual willingly. Her gigantic demon situated on her beheaded shoulders reveals itself as she claims that she's gone "beyond". Before a fight ensues, she calls herself the "Daughter of the UNSPEAKABLE".

TiffanyCutscene

Before devolving into the battle, Tiffany's statement that she was the first to perform the Second Death willingly implies that one of the conditions for the ritual to work is to make sure the vessel is unwilling. This would make sense considering that Gary and his cult have been unable to perform the ritual on anyone else for decades. The willingness of the victim is irrelevant because the second tier initiation note from Gary to the second tier initiates is that they are to be made in to vessels for the Second Death. Conditions behind this ritual are overall a mystery, but considering that Tiffany failed her own makeshift ritual, her being willing is probably one of the contributors as to why. In the entire series, the only people who are confirmed to have the ritual performed on them is Amy, who has a history of controlling parents[11] and an unstable mother[12], John (in a special gameover cutscene[13]), who has a long history of childhood trauma[14], and Miriam. Miriam getting the ritual performed on her unwillingly is unique and provides undetailed background on her past. However, this contradicts her history where she told cult members on how to perform it on her. Tiffany's statement is unreliable since it signifies that she doesn't know who Miriam is at all.

Cutting back to the battle, Tiffany's demon stomps around and bounces back & forth in the room, releasing large amounts of spirits from its body in the process. Like stated earlier, Tiffany used more-than-necessary sacrifices for her makeshift ritual, hence why her head looks obliterated and there's so many spirits getting released. After a while, John banishes the demon, who releases a burst of spirits before disappearing. Tiffany's body collapses to the ground.

Tiffany demon defeat

Just as John is about to leave, he turns around in horror to see Tiffany's body hurriedly crawling towards him like a spider. He quickly exorcises her before she kills him, who promptly bursts into a pool of blood.

Spider tiffany

There's a new note left behind by Gary, mocking John that he wasted another day helping a hopeless soul (Lisa) but congratulates him for getting rid of Tiffany. Apparently, Gary's been meaning to kill off Tiffany for a long time but hasn't had the time to do it, probably because he's off preparing for the Profane Sabbath. Gary wonders what side John is on and says that they'll see soon enough. He ends his letter with, "Gary Loves you".

Returning to the elevator, the buttons don't work and there's a hole on the ground. Nearby are words scribbled on the ground saying, "damnatio memoriae". John jumps down three times and lands himself on the 7th Floor. From now on, there's no way to return to the Unseen World. Just as the Latin words puts it, the entire floor was, in a sense, erased from memory, including Tiffany.

JohnHole

The 7th Floor is eerily barren and there isn't much left that relates to Tiffany. John takes the elevator to the 1st Floor and heads back home, with no sign of Malphas' summoning site or the Martin Twins. Currently, he's unaware that Tiffany's defeat was crucial to remove one of the seals blocking the entrance to the Crucible.

October 30th, 1987[]

Waking up from yet another recurring nightmare, John finds a new letter left behind by Father Garcia, instructing him to investigate a daycare center on 4th Street because he's getting reports of children exhibiting strange behavior. Before going into his car, John has an option of spying on his neighbors. He had an option of doing so for the past two days, where they were just watching normal TV programming, but this time it appears that an evil force is influencing the neighborhood. The TVs are broadcasting flashing images that are subconsciously trying to goad the viewer to kill. It shows vivid imagery of a red chalice, a red bird, the word "KILL" flashing repeatedly, Amy writhing uncontrollably, and Tiffany staring coldly. The parents and the children watching this barely react and continue staring at their TV.

John hops into his car and speeds off to the daycare.

As John almost reaches his destination, a cop car blares their sirens. He believes that the cop is trying to pull him over, so he does, but the cop zooms right past him. John parks and hops out of his car to see what's going on and finds multiple police officers stationed outside the daycare. He bypasses them by sneaking to the back and entering a broken fence. John enters inside via an unlocked door.

the tunnels await[]

In the middle of the building lies a note nearby a gruesome scene of four dead bodies and blood scattered everywhere:

Mother Moon watcheth her little ones behind a door of sleep

Daughter Chalice is filled, an offering to the Master in the Unseen World

Spirit Bird arriveth from afar and cometh back to roost.

These vessels are the Unholy Trinity.

The Fallen Star shall guide them.

What colors can you see?

Look to the children if you are lost.

— Note #31: Color Puzzle Poem, Chapter III

This poem somewhat attempts to explain what the Unholy Trinity truly is, but it's overall cryptic. This loosely relates to Tiffany in a way, so here's a rough interpretation of this poem (until we get anything official stating otherwise):

  • Mother Moon = Mother/Miriam. "Watcheth her little ones behind a door of sleep" can be interpreted as the Mother staying behind a locked door in the basement of the clinic while her legion of babies can seemingly roam wherever they please. Although, her babies only attack John in the basement, so this quote could signify that Jeffrey, one of the enemies roaming about in the rest of the clinic, is some kind of baby abomination. It's hard to say. Additionally, this quote also connects to Miriam considering that she's currently held up immobilized in the Crucible, and the entrance is blocked off by a demonic seal. She reappears in John's nightmares so that would explain how she would "watcheth her little ones".
  • Daughter Chalice = Tiffany/Amy/Any Second Death Vessel. "Filled, an offering to the Master in the Unseen World" can mean many things and is the most confusing quote. First and foremost, this refers to Tiffany because she hid herself in the Unseen World and her being "filled" is a nod to her behemoth demon situating on her head. Tiffany refers to herself as the Daughter of the UNSPEAKABLE so that's probably who the "Master" is, her makeshift Second Death ritual was an attempt to both please Gary and the UNSPEAKABLE. Secondly, Daughter Chalice overall is a role assigned to any Second Death vessel (this is more explained in the "Fallen Star" interpretation below), which would be Amy in this case. Her being "filled" could be referencing how Note #18 in Chapter II heavily suggests that the demon possessing her is a manifestation of the UNSPEAKABLE, or the "Master" if you will. If that's the case, then this poem establishes that the UNSPEAKABLE is situated in the Unseen World, which is interesting considering that every demonic entity in the series originates from Hell.
  • Spirit Bird = Malphas/Unclean Spirit. "Arriveth from afar and cometh back to roost" is rather self-explanatory. In Demonology, Malphas has a higher role in Hell and can go to & fro whenever he wishes, which would explain why he appears when John gets possessed by Alu for the first time. This note also refers to the Unclean Spirit, an enemy that John would eventually come across, since it can teleport and float around wherever it wants.
  • "These vessels are the Unholy Trinity" heavily suggests that the Moon, Chalice, and Spirit Bird are entities or people rather than something figurative, likewise with the Holy Trinity consisting of God (Father), Jesus (Son), and the Holy Spirit. With this in mind, and referencing Gary's quote before[15] and after[16] Super Miriam's defeat, all of this means that the Mother, Tiffany, and the Unclean Spirit are possessed by the Moon (Mother), Chalice (Daughter), and Spirit Bird (Unclean Spirit) respectively, hence why whenever they're defeated the seal covering the Crucible steadily gets removed. Since Gary did not use the Mother, Tiffany, and Unclean Spirit to form his own Unholy Trinity, this implies that what he's aiming for is somebody taking upon the title; Mother = Miriam, Daughter = Second Death vessel (Amy), and Unclean Spirit = Malphas.
  • Fallen Star = Gary/Astaroth. In Demonology, Astaroth is one of the many angels who were casted off to Hell after Satan attempted to go against God in the Bible. In this series, Gary is the human form of Astaroth (Check Gary's wiki page) and his ultimate goal is to create his own Unholy Trinity by using Miriam, Malphas, and the vessel of the Second Death (Amy)[15][16], guiding them in the process.

Interpretation behind "Daughter Chalice" thoroughly explains why Gary wanted to kill off Tiffany (besides breaking his trust), she keeps getting in the way of Amy, who he believes is the chosen vessel for both the Second Death and taking the role of the "Daughter" in his Unholy Trinity. Besides this poem, Tiffany won't be mentioned for a while.

October 31st, 1987[]

Flashing forward a little bit, Gary and John confront each other in Garyland, a secret tunnel system underneath the daycare. During the fight, Gary has a chance of summoning past foes, such as Michael, Cornfield Maze Demon, Red Demon, Tiffany's demon, Tiffany as a monstrosity, and more. With context clues, these enemies are apparitions and cannot kill John, only knock him down, implying that they're some sort of bad memory or trauma to him. Throughout the entire fight, Gary seems to know John in-and-out and is capable of mentally draining him. The fact that Tiffany appears twice signifies this, apparently John was shaken up from seeing her demon and her contorting into a spider. Otherwise, this is the last time Tiffany is mentioned.

Trivia[]

  • Her last name is confirmed to be Robinson as her apartment number; 3B, is where the key to Lisa's apartment is and the mailboxes on the first floor list it. Lisa tells John to find her if she isn't available at her apartment in her first letter to him and is further confirmed when she appears on the TV when John walks out of 3B.
  • Tiffany's boss theme is titled "I Am Beyond", referring to how she claims to have done more than Amy has ever done for Gary. The name of the soundtrack also refers to her quote "AND NOW, I AM BEYOND."
  • Her proclaiming herself as "The Daughter of the Unspeakable" is a bastardized version of Jesus Christ being "The Son of God", just like the other secret bosses of Chapter III.
  • Strangely, Tiffany is the exact same color as the Elevator Lady.
  • (This is related to the wiki page) Shoutout to Captain Howdy from the FAITH Fan Discord for cropping Tiffany on the OST Thumbnail.

Theories[]

  • In October of 87', Gary begins to take over an apartment complex in New Haven. The exact reasoning is unclear, but Tiffany could have given Gary the idea to relocate the Peekaboo Demon to the apartment building so that the police won't get suspicious and fight back.
