The Tutorial is as such; an area where the player may practice moving John around and using the cross.
In the room, there's a fruit. Practice walking over to the fruit to pick it up. The bottom words say, "I will walk before the LORD in the land of the living." - Psalms 116:9
After collecting three fruits, a Red Demon appears. Practice using the cross on it. It cannot be banished, though it can be repelled, and it cannot kill John. The bottom words say, "Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." - James 4:7
After repelling it three times, the player returns to the title screen. Entering the Exit the door at anytime will also exit the tutorial.
History[]
This tutorial section seems to be a dream that John experiences since the Red Demon that he practices against reappears as an apparition in Chapter III; implying that John has faced this from this area.
Before September 21st, 1987[]
John experiences a dream where Amy reaches out to him. She wants him to return to the Martin House on the anniversary of the failed exorcism to save her from her demon. To prepare himself, he practices using his crucifix on a demon since he hasn't worn his priest outfit and cross in almost a year. He wakes up from the dream and readies himself to return to the house to finish what he started.
Trivia[]
- Since the tutorial is an area that John has been in, it's the only area within the series that's relaxing. Nothing actively tries to kill John and he gets motivated from the quotes we see from The Bible. This is all done to ramp him up to return to the Martin House.
